Exam structure

WISO Exam Structure 2026

Mathematics

Mathematics is the most critical and challenging section. WISO 2025 cut 30 minutes from the exam: same material, less time. Focused timed practice is not optional.

Percentages and financial mathematics
Algebra and equations
Functions and graphs
Progressions and series
Basics of combinatorics and probability
Diagram and table analysis
What you need to know

30 minutes less in 2026. Exam shortened from 2 hours 30 minutes to 2 hours. Same task volume, less time per question. Train under a timer from day one.

🧩

Logic is part of the maths block. It includes sequences and analytical tasks. Regular practice — 15 minutes a day — is the only way to improve speed in this area.

Economics and social sciences

Basic micro and macro economics concepts, business fundamentals and accounting basics. Questions test understanding, not just definition memorisation. Current economic events and their connection to theory are an important part of preparation.

Microeconomics: demand, supply, equilibrium
Macroeconomics: GDP, inflation, unemployment
Business basics and organisational forms
Marketing and management: basic concepts
Accounting: balance sheet, income statement
Market structures: monopoly, oligopoly
What you need to know
📖

Understanding beats memorisation. Tasks often come as scenarios — 'what happens to price if demand rises and supply falls?' Knowing definitions is not enough.

🏢

Organisational forms — details matter. GmbH, AG, OG, KG — differences in liability, ownership structure and taxation. Classic topic for tricky questions.

German text comprehension

An academic or journalistic text on an economic or social topic — and a series of comprehension questions. Tests ability to quickly navigate text, identify the main idea and understand details. For those who still need EPD — this section requires separate attention.

Academic and journalistic Sachtext
Understanding main idea and key details
Academic vocabulary and complex syntax
What you need to know
📰

Read DER STANDARD, Die Presse daily. Austrian business press gives both vocabulary and topics — exactly those that appear in WISO tasks.

Read the questions before the text. Knowing what to look for — you scan the text faster. With the shortened exam time, this tactic saves up to 3–4 minutes.

🔎

Find the specific passage for each answer. If you can't find confirmation in the text — the answer is most likely wrong or 'not mentioned'.

WU
Programme Student

I know the university from the inside. Not guesswork — experience.

I study at WU Wien and know how the selection process is actually structured, which sections matter most, and where students most often stumble. I scored 93.4% on the BBE — that year the exam was held online, which demanded even higher discipline and focus. My course is not a compiled textbook — it's practical preparation from someone who walked this path.

FAQ

Everything you want to know

No — these are two different entrance exams for two different programmes. However, the structure and types of tasks are identical. The main difference is the language: WISO is taught and tested primarily in German, while BBE is English-only.
Yes, if your school certificate is not Austrian or Swiss. EPD confirms German level B2–C1 — a requirement for WISO. Good news: EPD and WISO can be prepared in parallel. Message me on Telegram — I'll tell you how to combine them.
Depends on your starting level. If maths or economics are new topics, at least 2–3 months of serious work. If you have a foundation — 4–6 weeks of targeted practice. The main thing: consistency and practice under a timer, not just reading theory.
You can register without a school certificate — it is only needed for official enrolment (from July). Even if you graduate in 2026 — register from March 2 with no problems.
If within the first week the course isn't right for you — just message me on Telegram. Full refund, no questions asked.
